Chatham-Kent has 1,455 households on the affordable housing waitlist and an average of 228 people experiencing homelessness each month. Existing services address housing needs and skills needs separately — nobody combines permanently affordable housing, hands-on skills training, and a working homestead into one integrated community. That's the gap Rooted Living Homestead Society was built to fill.

Our long-term pathway to permanently affordable housing is a community land trust — land held in trust by the organization, never sold for private gain, so homes stay affordable for every future generation, not just the first buyer. Homestead Roots graduates will have a real route from skills training into secure, lasting housing, not just a program certificate.
